The passport in India is Issued under the Passport Act of 1967. A passport is a document that contains details such as the Holder’s name, Nationality, Gender, Date, and Place of birth, hence making it an essential travel document. There are 37 RPOs across the country and around 170 Indian missions on foreign soil that can issue Indian passports.

Consequently, the loss or expiry of a passport brings along serious repercussions for an individual, and thus applying for a re-issue of passport at the earliest is imperative in such a situation.
